General Education
The General Education Department provides quality instruction to facilitate student success. The department develops core academic and professional skills. When students graduate from a diploma, certificate, or associate degree program, they will demonstrate competencies in the following areas: research, writing, reading, oral communications, mathematics, and social/behavioral science.
Academic Success Center
The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides free and holistic tutorial support services. Tutors are trained in the Peer-led Team Learning (PLTL) model and offer tutorial services in Mathematics, English, Reading, and basic Microsoft Office. Located in room C2118, the Academic Success Center provides an open study area, face-to-face tutorial, Internet access, and various tutorial computer software. During the Covid-19 pandemic, all tutoring is conducted via Upswing. Students will find links to Upswing in their Blackboard courses.
Learning Support
Learning Support (LS) provides lecture and computer based instruction designed to fulfill the basic academic needs of program entry. If a student‘s placement test scores or transcripts indicate a weakness in Writing, Reading, Numerical Skills, or Algebra, the student will enroll in Learning Support (LS) courses. The goal of these courses is to enhance a student’s ability to succeed in college-level courses.
First Year Experience
The First Year Experience is a student success course designed to transition, connect, and acclimate new students to Atlanta Technical College. The course creates an awareness of various campus resources and holistic skill sets necessary to achieve educational and career success. Through the nurturing of academic, personal, social, occupational, and technological talents, students develop the academic and professional skills necessary to be successful in college and the global community.
