Program Description

The Dental Assisting accredited program prepares students for employment in a variety of positions in today's dental offices. The Dental Assisting program provides learning opportunities which introduce, develop, and reinforce academic and occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Additionally, the program provides opportunities to upgrade present knowledge and skills or to retrain in the area of dental assisting. Graduates of the program receive a Dental Assisting diploma and are eligible to sit for a national certification examination.

Additional Program Admission Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be CRP certified from the American Heart Association- Basic LIfe Support (BLS) course before entering the occupational courses.

Blood and Airborne Pathogens

Students enrolled in Category I and II programs at Atlanta Technical College will be performing tasks in which there is a normal occurrence for exposure to blood, other potentially infectious body materials, and airborne pathogens.

These tasks will be performed in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical activities for each occupational training program/course. Students will be required to present documentation of Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis immunizations as a result of potential occupational exposure. Students should contact their program directors for more information. Program Outcomes

3. The graduate will be able to prepare patient for dental procedures, reviewing vital signs, medical history and answering questions.

5. The graduate will be able to perform front office duties—file insurance, take payments, schedule appointments.
