Professional Assessment and Certification Center

Professional certifications are quickly becoming a requirement for those entering the workforce, especially in the technology field. A certification verifies to an employer that you have the knowledge and skills required to perform a specific job successfully. Certifications are also a way to demonstrate that your qualifications are more attractive than those of other competing job candidates. To meet this demand, Atlanta Technical College provides a professional testing and certification center for students, businesses, and members of the community. The testing is done in a secure, monitored environment on computers that are usually linked with the hosting service via the World Wide Web. Those who wish to take a professional certification test must register and schedule the exam through the sponsoring vendor and/or our center. Official identification is required when reporting for testing. All certification testing is by APPOINTMENT ONLY! The Professional Assessment Center (PAC) is located in Building G, Rooms 1105, 1106, and 1106B. For more information, please contact pac@atlantatech.edu or 404-225-4681. The Professional Assessment Center currently provides assessment services through the following vendors:

ACT; Comira; Georgia Pest Control Commission; ISO Quality Testing (ISO-QT); Kryterion; and Pearson Vue.

ACT (American College Testing) – The Professional Assessment Center administers the WorkKeys® assessment, which takes the guesswork out of high-stakes decisions for employers regarding hiring and promotion of employees. WorkKeys® measures both the core skills and the work habits sought after by employers and businesses. To register, schedule an appointment, and pay the fee for taking the WorkKeys® assessment at the Professional Assessment Center, go to http://www.atlantatechworkkeysexam.eventbrite.com. The Professional Assessment Center, in cooperation with the Atlanta Tech Academic and Student Affairs office, also administers ACT’s

Compass® exam, which provides a standardized measure of an individual’s skill levels in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Reading, and Writing. Compass® scores are used in the admissions process at Atlanta Tech and other technical colleges in determining whether an individual student is “program-ready”, meaning that the student is ready to enter immediately into the curriculum of study for the student’s desired program, or whether the student requires remediation in the form of Learning Support classes to prepare for entering the curriculum. Each program of study offered for transferrable credit by Atlanta Tech has an assigned set of cut scores, based on the level of academic difficulty of the specific program, and each applicant’s scores are compared to the cut scores for the desired program to determine whether that individual is eligible for regular admission (not requiring any Learning Support classes); provisional admission (requiring one or more Learning Support classes). Taking the Compass® is a required part of the process of applying for admission to Atlanta Technical College for anyone who does not have previous credit in degree-level Algebra and English with at least a grade of C from another accredited college, or who does not have recent scores at the required level on the Compass®, The ACT®, or the SAT that can be sent officially to the Atlanta Tech Office of Enrollment Services. Only after you have submitted an application for admission to the Atlanta Tech Office of Enrollment Services and paid the $25 application fee, go to www.atccompasstest.eventbrite.com to register for the Compass® and to schedule for a testing appointment.

The Compass® is also administered by the Professional Assessment Center for students wishing to enroll in other colleges, who should visit http://www.atlantatechremoteexams.eventbrite.com to register, schedule, and pay for the test. The Compass® is administered by the Professional Assessment Center as well to individuals who are applying for employment with Georgia law enforcement, corrections, and probation and parole agencies, to be utilized by those agencies in employment screening. To register, schedule a testing appointment, and make the required payment to take the Compass® as a required part of the employment application process for any of those agencies, go to http://www.atlantatechpostexam.eventbrite.com.
