The Radiologic Technology associate degree program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for positions in radiology departments and related businesses and industries. Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of didactic and clinical instruction necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive an associate of applied science degree, have the qualifications of a radiographer, and are eligible to sit for a national certification examination for radiographers. 

Program Mission Statement and Goals

The mission of the Atlanta Technical College Radiologic Technology Program is to prepare competent entry-level radiographers able to function in the healthcare community.

4.2. Students will demonstrate a high level of engagement while in the clinical site

Clinical Obligations

Program students will have clinical courses throughout the program. Clinicals will include weekday, weekend, and evening shifts at various geographic clinical locations. The clinical settings are listed in the program student handbook and in the program information packet. These clinical settings and the student clinical schedule are subject to change based on the need of the clinical site, program, and clinical coordinator. Students are expected to have reliable transportation not only to campus but also to the clinical sites and are required to travel to their assigned clinical sites at the various geographically dispersed clinical settings. Annual background checks and drug screens are required and is the responsibility of the student to purchase and complete when requested. Documented health immunizations and records will need to be provided to the program during the application process and after being accepted into the program.

 

Professional Liability

Various clinical settings sponsor the Radiologic Technology Program and accepted students must meet all of the clinical settings new employee requirements. These requirements include registering for various systems, completing orientation, and other onboarding requirements. As part of their matriculation, the college maintains professional liability insurance renewed annually.

Program Specific Admissions Requirements

Students must meet all admission requirements of the college including official high school or GED transcript, achievement of minimum program admission scores in Reading, Language, and Math, transfer of previous post-secondary credits and have reached the age of 18. Applicants must be in good academic standing at the time of selection to receive consideration as candidates for admission. Admission to the Radiologic Technology Program is based on a competitive selection process. The program admits students once per year for the fall semester. There are minimum requirements for admission to the program and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Applicants not selected for the program may reapply during subsequent admission intake periods.

Submit the completed admissions packet to the Radiologic Technology program office after completing the following steps:

• Complete prerequisite core courses (general education coursework; see below)
• Attend an information session
•Take and score a minimum of 70 or higher on each of the three required sections (Anatomy & Physiology, Math, Reading & Comprehensive) of the HESI-A2 or TEAS VI exam. Only one of these two exams is required, applicants may select which one they would like to complete. The HESI-A2 or TEAS VI exam must be taken in-person, remote or virtual proctored exams will not be accepted. 

The program grants an Associate Degree in Applied Science. The following courses are required for graduation but can be completed either prior to admission into the program or during the program. 

• Area II Requirements (Minimum 3 hours PSYC 1101)
• Area IV requirements (Minimum 3 hours (Any Humanities based course)

- 1. Prerequisite core courses:  Students who re-take a prerequisite course in the attempt to earn a higher grade will have 1 point deducted in the application process for each course this occurs with.  

  • English 1
  • Math College Algebra or Math Modeling

  • Anatomy & Physiology I and its lab component*
  • Anatomy & Physiology II and its lab component*

- The science prerequisite courses with a * above, must be less than five (5) years old by the program start date in the Fall semester. Applicants must ensure that transferred science courses from other approved institutions of higher education are no more than five (5) years old by the program start date in the Fall semester.

-Requirements for transferring courses from another approved institution is the responsibility of the applicant for transcript records to be updated at our institution. Applicants must apply to the college for acceptance by February of the applicant time period in order to be accepted by the college and transcripts evaluation to take place. 

 

In addition, applicants must obtain a minimum GPA of 3.25 in only the seven prerequisite courses, not the cumulative overall GPA.

2. Program Information Sessions are offered throughout the school year and prospective students must attend at least one. The program hosts these information sessions to provide detailed information about the profession and the program itself. Prospective students will gain useful information regarding program costs, program requirements, program course information etc. Radiologic Technology program information sessions are held virtually during the Spring and Fall semesters; sessions are not held during the Summer term. The dates are posted below and are updated at the end of September each year.

3. Submit scores for the HESI-A2 or TEAS-VI assessment examination. We encourage you to take this assessment when you have completed or are nearly completed with Anatomy and Physiology II and Medical Terminology.

Regarding the HESI-A2 or TEAS-VI exams in the ATC Testing Center, please direct any questions regarding scheduled exams at the Atlanta Technical College Testing Center (Main Campus and ATC South), by contacting testing@atlantatech.edu 404-225-4681.

  • All HESI and TEAS exams must be taken in person. 
  • Virtual, online, proctored exam results are not and will not be accepted.

4. Students will need to complete an in-person Anatomy & Physiology exam and handwritten essay on the ATC campus in the Radiology program area.  This is a requirement for the Radiology Technology degree admission and application process. This is in addition to the required completion of the HESI or TEAS test. The dates for this exam/essay are listed below. Please complete the electronic form and schedule your exam/essay date.  Please note, forms submitted less than 48 hours before the scheduled exam/essay date may not be received in time to be included in the test date. 5. Submit an application to the ATC Radiologic Technology program. The application time period opens on February 1st and the deadline to apply for the Radiologic Technology program is May 28 each year. Select here for Radiologic Technology program application. Select for Radiologic Technology program application. If you are not a current Atlanta Technical College student, you must apply and have all transcripts submitted to the college before the deadline of May 28. It is strongly recommended for outside applicants to have this process of applying to the college and submitting official transcripts for evaluation and acceptance by February 28. For non-current Atlanta Technical College students, both the Radiology program application and application to the college must be completed.

*Please note: Priority will be given to local Georgia state resident applicants over other applicants (including out-of state and international).*

*Provisional acceptance into the program with specific detailed requirements, may be used in the event of low applications for a full class to be selected. This will be at the discretion of the program director and will be decided based on the annual applicants received each Spring.*

Students who have completed the Atlanta Technical College Radiologic Technologist Assistant TCC certificate program, must apply and be accepted into the degree program within a year of completion to avoid having to repeat the RADT1010 course.

Blood and Airborne Pathogens

Students enrolled in Category I and II programs at Atlanta Technical College will be performing tasks in which there is a normal occurrence for exposure to blood, other potentially infectious body materials, and airborne pathogens.

These tasks will be performed in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical activities for each occupational training program/course. Students will be required to present documentation of Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis immunizations as a result of potential occupational exposure. Students should contact their program directors for more information. Students may be required to sign waivers acknowledging potential exposure to Corona Virus on campus or in the clinical setting.
