Occupational Trends
The state of Georgia ranks 5th in the nation for logistics and supply chain employment and is home to six of the top 50 cargo carriers. Being in close geographical proximity to many of the State's transportation assets, including I-75, I-85 and I-20, the Port of Savannah, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and two Class 1 railroads, Gwinnett County is attractive to companies that rely on logistics services to move products to consumers. As a result, Gwinnett's annual truck freight has $19,335,947,340 of inbound value and $19,794,118,989 of outbound value. The County's annual rail freight is $2,347,456,262 inbound and $1,654,095,553 outbound, while the ocean freight that comes through the County via Georgia ports represents $1,045,054,270 in import value and $1,121,911,643 in export value. Gwinnett is home to 323 logistics providers who employ 6,771 in the County, as well as 2,970 logistics-enabled companies who employ an additional 60,408 Georgians. Between now and 2018, logistics employment in Georgia is projected to grow at 18%, exceeding both the regional and the national average and generating 9500 job per year across a range of functions. To meet future workforce demand in this industry, more trained or certified employees are needed. The Logistics Management Specialist TCC will help close this gap by preparing students for entry-level positions in this industry.
