Program Description (Major Code: HI71)
Health Information Technicians organize and maintain health information data by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic systems. They use various classification systems to code and categorize patient information for reimbursement purposes, for databases and registries, and to maintain patients' medical and treatment histories. The Health Information Systems Certificate program is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and skills necessary to support installing, using and maintaining electronic health records. Program graduates will be prepared to organize and maintain health information data.
Admissions Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Completion of high school or GED and submission of official transcript required to apply
- Achievement of minimum program admission scores in Reading, Language, and Math
- Transfer of previous post-secondary credits will be determined by the Office of Enrollment Services and HIMT Program Director
- Must ensure that transfer courses from other approved institutions of higher education are no more than five (5) years old; these include MATH 1012, MATH 1013, AND HIMT occupational courses.
- Maximum transfer credits to accept from other approved institutions of higher education is 30%.
Student Performance/Graduation Requirements: Students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average and complete all required courses to graduate.
