Program Description

The Master Cosmetology program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the field of cosmetology. Learning opportunities develop professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, state laws, rules, and regulations, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, skin, hair, and nail diseases and disorders, hair treatments and manipulations, hair shaping, hair styling, artificial hair, braiding/intertwining hair, chemical reformation and application, skin and nail care, hair coloring, hair lightening, reception, sales, management, employability skills, and work ethics. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology. Program graduates will receive a Cosmetology for Licensure and are employable as a cosmetology salesperson, cosmetologist, salon manager, or a salon owner.

Blood and Airborne Pathogens

Students enrolled in Category I and II programs at Atlanta Technical College will be performing tasks in which there is a normal occurrence for exposure to blood, other potentially infectious body materials, and airborne pathogens.

These tasks will be performed in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical activities for each occupational training program/course. Students will be required to present documentation of Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis immunizations as a result of potential occupational exposure. Students should contact their program directors for more information. Program Outcomes

1. Graduates will be able to perform skills associated with the profession of a licensed cosmetologist. This includes but is not limited to shampoo and scalp treatments, haircuts and styles, perms, chemical and color treatments, nail and skin care practices.
2. Graduates will be able to perform duties related to salon operations.
3. Graduates will be able to operate safely. Observe and implement all proper sanitation policies and procedures in all salon procedures.
