Competitive Programs and Programs with Professional Requirements

The competitive process is intended to collect success indicators to determine which students will be most likely to complete the program, therefore making the best utilization of these limited resources. Most competitive programs require students to complete a series of prerequisite courses as well as take an exam that will measure skills and abilities for a given field of study. Some programs will also include an application session and orientation.

  • Competitive Programs: The following programs have additional admissions requirements.
  • Aviation Maintenance Technician - Airframe – Technical Certificate of Credit
  • Aviation Maintenance Technician – Power Plant – Technical Certificate of Credit
  • Dental Hygiene – Associate Degree
  • LPN to RN Bridge – Associate Degree
  • Nursing, Associate of Science Degree – Associate Degree
  • Physical Therapist Assistant – Associate Degree
  • Radiologic Technology – Associate Degree

Professional Requirements: The following programs of study have additional requirements due to industry guidelines and regulations.

  • Barbering Assistant – Technical Certificate of Credit – Georgia Master Barber License (minimum 1-year)
  • Barbering for Cosmetologists – Technical Certificate of Credit – Georgia Cosmetology License
  • Barbering Instructor Training – Technical Certificate of Credit – Georgia Master Barber License (minimum 1-year)
  • Cosmetology Instructor Training – Technical Certificate of Credit – Georgia Cosmetology License (1-year minimum)
  • Commercial Truck Driving - Technical Certificate of Credit –
    • Be at least 18 years of age (students 18-20 years of age may operate a commercial truck only in the State of Georgia, therefore students 21 years or older have expanded employment opportunities),
    • Have a current Class A CDL Learner’s Permit prior to applying to the college,
    • Obtain a certified 7-year Motor Vehicle Report from a Georgia Department of Driver Services Customer Service Center,
    • Pass the Department of Transportation physical examination,
    • Successfully pass a Department of Transportation drug screen while enrolled in the program, and
    • Not have any DUI, reckless driving, or other serious violations, e.g., repetitive offenses, multiple speeding tickets, super speeder tickets, open container violations, hit and run, driving with insurance or license, texting and/or failure to control devices. Certified motor vehicle reports are subject for review and approval by the associate dean.
  • Dental Assisting – Diploma – Must be CPR certified from that American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) before entering occupational courses.
  • Advanced Dental Assisting – Technical Certificate of Credit - Must be CPR certified from that American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) before entering occupational courses.
  • Basic Dental Assisting – Technical Certificate of Credit - Must be CPR certified from that American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) before entering occupational courses.
  • Electrical Line Worker – Technical Certificate of Credit –
    • Pass the Department of Transportation physical examination.
    • Successfully pass a Department of Transportation drug screen while enrolled in the program.
  • Paralegal Studies Professional – Technical Certificate of Credit – Must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Paramedicine – Associate Degree – Documentation of current AEMT Certification
  • Paramedicine – Diploma – Documentation of current AEMT Certification
  • Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) – Technical Certificate of Credit – Documentation of current EMT/NREMT Certification
  • Health Information Management Technology (HIMT) – Associate Degree– Must attend HIMT information session prior to starting HIMT occupational courses.
  • Health Information Coding – Diploma - Must attend HIMT information session prior to starting HIMT occupational courses.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist – Technical Certificate of Credit – Must be certified in radiography, nuclear medicine, or radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). A copy of the front and back of the ARRT certification card must be submitted. Applicants who are recent graduates of an accredited radiologic technology program may request a waiver of this requirement but must submit a copy of their ARRT certification card prior to start of the program.
  • Mammography Technical Certificate of Credit – Must be certified in radiography, nuclear medicine, or radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
